For roles based in London, your contractual place of work will be Stratford. While the Stratford site is expected to become operational from November 2025 – March 2026, you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Vauxhall or another reasonable location on a temporary basis during the interim period.

Information about the Command
The role of Intelligence is to develop the right operations, which target and disrupt - by the most effective means - the offenders who seek to cause the highest harm to the UK. A diverse directorate with a wide variety of unique functions and specialist skillsets in our ranks, some of which we deliver as the national provider for the wider Serious Organised Crime (SOC) system. From our niche technical capabilities, to our overseas network of International Liaison Officers (ILO) and our Tasking teams, there are many component parts which contribute to the efforts of the directorate and the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Information about the Business Area
The International Department works with international partners and coordinates UK law enforcement support overseas to gather and share intelligence, conduct operational activity and enhance international delivery through a variety of means, including capacity building, training, and joint European and International taskforces. The International Department also provides the specialist capabilities available through its membership of INTERPOL and EUROPOL in supporting UK law enforcement intelligence and operational requirements, and working directly with partners to safeguard vulnerable members of the community.
The UK National Extradition Unit (NEU) respond by triaging and developing leads on extradition requests. High/Medium risk cases in England and Wales are actioned by the JICC, who use all capabilities at their disposal to locate and arrest fugitives. The JICC relentlessly pursue fugitives overseas, including their collection from the jurisdictions where they have been located.
The NEU is home to a wealth of experience in specific country knowledge and the processes relating to extradition both into and out of the UK. The team provide advice and guidance where a subject has fled overseas and in relation to locating foreign subjects in the UK, including the post-arrest procedures for surrendering a subject. The team provide intelligence support by developing subject profiles to assist our in-house operational Extradition Unit and UK law enforcement, to locate and effect the arrest of those wanted by foreign partners. They also work closely with the ILO network regarding UK fugitives wanted overseas, and use the NCA’s niche capabilities in support of international fugitive hunts.
The NEU has responsibility for managing all aspects of extradition across England and Wales. The unit is made up of two hubs, one based in London and one in Warrington.
You will form part of one operational team who are responsible for the locating and arresting of subjects wanted by foreign jurisdictions for extradition.
You will be responsible for the management of your own workload and the use of all available tactics to locate and arrest subjects.
It is expected you will bring good working knowledge and experience of fugitive enquiries to the role and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
The unit also has responsibility for the collection of subjects from abroad wanted in the UK who have had their extradition ordered, this is done on behalf of all police forces across England and Wales.
This role will involve shift work and unsociable hours at short notice including an on-call rota, therefore a high degree of flexibility is required. There is a frequent requirement to travel both nationally and internationally, often at short notice.
The work of the unit can be high profile and crime types are extremely varied.
Note - these roles are available on both our north team (based in Warrington) and our south teams (based in London). Therefore candidates must be within a reasonable travel distance of either location and must stipulate which location they are applying for.
Managing a team of Officers, each with a caseload of subjects wanted for extradition and ensuring the progression of appropriate and timely enquiries to locate and arrest them - Operational Team Supervisors are expected to be subject matter experts on fugitive enquiries, providing oversight to a large caseload of high harm subjects sought for extradition. They should be able to provide advice, guidance and upskilling to their teams in relation to such matters.
Supervising operational deployments across England and Wales ensuring the appropriate authorities and risk assessments are in place - Operational Team Supervisors provide direct leadership and oversight of physical deployments seeking to arrest extradition subjects. This includes responsibility for overseeing the risk assessment of such matters, obtaining specialist support where needed and maintaining a record of relevant decision making.
Providing advice and guidance law enforcement nationally around extradition - All NEU Supervisors are expected to be subject matter experts in extradition and be able to provide advice, guidance and support to law enforcement nationally as required. Note - it is not expected this knowledge will be held on joining and training/support will be provided.
Conducting out of hours on-call duties as a 24/7 contact point for extradition matters nationally - Operational teams work a 24/7 on-call rota having responsibility for this every 4 weeks, during this week the team both provides an out-of-hours point of contact and is available for immediate deployment nationally for high harm situations relating to extradition.
Supervising and leading on the collection of subjects from abroad wanted in the UK - All NEU Supervisors are expected to lead on the collection of subjects sought for extradition from anywhere in the world. Such operations can carry significant risk and require specialist knowledge and planning. Note - it is not expected this knowledge will be held on joining and training/support will be provided.
Any other work in support of operational extradition functions as required - The unit leads or supports multiple projects and other tasks, often working with partners, relating to extradition. All officers are required to contribute to such work where necessary. Supervisors also all hold individual responsibility for specific areas of our operations which they support across the unit.
Driving - It would be advantageous to have a response driving license on application or the willingness to obtain whilst in post.
Experience of operational fugitive work - Extensive experience of operational fugitive work both from a practitioner and supervisory perspective.
Knowledge of Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000 and Investigatory Powers Act (IPA) 2016 - A working and practical knowledge of RIPA and IPA its application in both surveillance and communications data scenarios.
Covert tactics - Experience of managing a broad range of covert tactics.
Handling sensitive intelligence - Experience in supervising the handling and using of sensitive intelligence.
Communications data and analysis - Good knowledge of communications data and its analysis in relation to fugitive enquiries.
Risk assessments - Extensive experience in making informed risk assessments based on sound rationale.
Training - Up to date with all mandatory force training including officer safety and emergency life support.
Due to the nature of the role it is suggested to ensure your passport is valid and up to date.

This is a secondment of 24 months with possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement and CS Commissioner's approval.
